How to find the Perfect Bridesmaid Dresses

So you’ve found the venue and the wedding gown, but what about your bridesmaids’ dresses? Here’s a quick guide to finding and choosing beautiful gowns that your bridesmaids will be proud to be seen in.

Pick a colour
Many brides like their bridesmaids to wear the wedding’s theme colour, but this will only work well if it’s a colour which suits them. The best option is to meet your bridesmaids for coffee and ask them which colours they look good in and which colours are complete no-gos. Choose your wedding’s theme colour from the list of colours which suit them as well as you, and weave this colour throughout your day in bouquets, corsages and decorations.

Hit the shops!
Your bridesmaids will have a good idea of the styles which best suit their figures, so shortlist some bridesmaid dress boutiques and take them shopping. They need to feel comfortable in the gowns you finally choose, so get them to try on lots of different styles and ask which ones they think best suit them.

Choose a style
Remember that your bridesmaids’ dresses need to compliment, though not necessarily mirror your bridal gown in shape and style. Your bridesmaids should certainly not be more elaborately dressed than you are.

Vary the theme
If your bridesmaids have different body shapes, choose different styles in the same colour to emphasise their best assets. That way they will all get to look their best.

Match the formality
In general, floor length bridesmaids’ dresses are best for a formal or semi-formal wedding and ankle-length gowns or cocktail dresses are appropriate for a more casual wedding.

Finally, don’t forget about accessories. You will need to find your bridesmaids matching shoes, not to mention jewellery and perhaps even dainty little clutch bags. Shopping for these things is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your dearest friends in the run-up to your wedding, so plan in plenty of coffee shop stops and have fun with it!
