Our latest Bride of the Week is Katherina Leung who married Christopher Brown at Brookwater Golf Club, Brisbane, Australia. Click on the photos on the left to see them enlarged.

The proposal
Chris flew me over to Hong Kong with my parents and told me we were all going out to a special dinner at the Peninsula Hotel. To my surprise we were greeted by a table for two overlooking the Hong Kong city skyline, and Chris explained it was a surprise romantic dinner for us. When dessert arrived a waiter brought out a huge bouquet of flowers and a whole tiramisu torte (my favourite) decorated with the words ‘marry me’. Then Chris got down on one knee with a gorgeous ring and asked me to marry him in Chinese.

The dress
I wore a simple, classic white satin gown by Wendy Sullivan with a slight train and crystals embroidered around the bodice, bust line and straps. At the reception I removed the bodice to reveal a straight dress which I dressed up with a jewelled belt.

The ceremony
Our wedding was a fusion of Australian and Chinese culture, so we began the day with the traditional Chinese tea ceremony and continued with a civil ceremony in the beautiful grounds of Brookwater, one of Australia’s top ten golf courses. We were surrounded by manicured gardens and giant Eucalyptus trees, and the sunset made a beautiful backdrop. Our bridal party was a little alternative with my best friend Truc as my man of honour, and Chris's best friend Amy as his best lady. My favourite part was the Chinese poem we included that says ‘in life we rest under one cover, in sleep or death we share one resting place’.

The reception
We held our reception in the clubhouse and my father-in-law, as our Master of Ceremonies, made sure everything ran smoothly. I wanted to give our guests favours that symbolise our relationship, so I chose succulent potted plants as they survive well in drought or rain, sun or shade, which is what I wish for our marriage. Since guests from abroad could not take succulents home, I also personally baked double chocolate chip shortbreads for every other guest and presented them boxed in little Chinese noodle boxes.

Katherina’s top tips for Love and Cherish brides-to-be
Have a budget and stick to it. Make a list of all the things that are important to you and bring down the cost of everything else. For us the food, drink, photos, wedding DVD and honeymoon were our priorities, and everything else just worked around it.
